Clondalkin Garda Superintendent Brendan Connolly said the 10 new gardai for Ballyfermot, will contain a 50/50 mix of “experienced gardai and new recruits.”

“They are being assigned to the regular units to provide a more visible presence,” said Supt Connolly.

Five experienced gardai are moving from Clondalkin to Ballyfermot, along with five new recruits from Templemore.

Five new recruits from Templemore will be assigned to Clondalkin Garda Station.

According to recent figures from the Department of Justice, this year will see 900 trainees become members of An Garda Síochána.

This will bring garda numbers – taking account of projected retirements – to around the 13,500 mark by the end of 2017.

Government plans are to achieve an overall garda workforce of 21,000 personnel by 2021.
