Bolger burning for an FA Cup upset
FLEETWOOD TOWN FC Vice Captain Cian Bolger insists his side have the potential to cause an FA Cup upset after they earned a third round replay with Premier League outfit Leicester City following their scoreless draw on Saturday.
The Cod Army had chances to win the match with Ashley Hunter seeing his effort deflected on to the post in injury time while Bolger, himself, was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after his header travelled the wrong side of the crossbar.
The results means the two sides will go head to head again in the King Power Stadium next Tuesday evening.
Looking back on the match, former Cherry Orchard schoolboy Bolger, who also played with St Anne’s GAA Club, told The Echo “We always felt that we had a good chance and really we should have beaten them.
“We had spells when we were on top and we were disappointed in the end not to win, which, I suppose is good in a way because no one was expecting us beat them.
“This team has a lot of confidence. Leicester will probably throw one or two more of their main players in for the replay, but there’s no pressure on us and we’ll have nothing to fear,” he insisted.
Currently sitting 13th in the Sky Bet League One table, Fleetwood are just eight points off the play-off berths right now and will be hoping got make up some more ground when they travel to Roots Hall to face Bolger’s former club Southend this Saturday.
“We’ve been a bit up and down this season, but we have a very young team and that comes with the territory. You have to expect that,” said Bolger.
“We had a good Christmas period and now we have another big match against Southend this weekend. Hopefully we can get the win there,” he added.
