There was major excitement in Fairy HQ this week, when the shop in Emmerdale stocked a number of products from the Clondalkin-based Irish Fairy Door Company.

The hit ITV soap, which is watched by more than seven million viewers across the UK and Ireland, contacted the company about stocking their products in the Yorkshire Dales' village shop.

Niamh Sherwin Barry, a Fairy Door Company director, told The Echo that a set-designer working on the show, who is also from Clondalkin, suggested using the colourful products in David’s Shop.

“This was thanks to the Irish connection”, Niamh said.

“A Clondalkin guy is a set designer over there and he knows our products from his niece.

“The show first contacted us about using our products in the community garden [being created in Emmerdale as part of the storyline].

“However, they then decided to use us in the shop, and we’ve been given a great location right behind the cash register where a lot of shots are filmed.”

She added: “We’ll be part of the show’s spring/summer series, and are guaranteed around five weeks in the shop.

“The whole thing is wonderful, it’s fairly surreal really and we’re all very excited.

“An awful lot of hard work goes into what we do and when something like this happens we are reminded of how far we’ve come.”
