Come and Sing Messiah!: Tallaght Choral Society extend open invitation

Following a very successful Open night last month, Tallaght Choral Society (TCS) is currently preparing to host a Messiah Come and Sing event in Tallaght village on October 28, the Bank Holiday weekend.

The group believe this to be an innovative and unique venture which hasn’t been attempted before.

TCS members are extending an open invitation to any singer -amateur, experienced or inexperienced over 18-years-old – to come along on the Saturday morning to St Mary’s Priory.

There with the assistance of expert tutors, helpful members and a welcoming atmosphere, all will be supported to learn key Messiah choruses.

Singers will progress from sectional workshops in the morning to a full choir rehearsal after lunch.

There will be a break for elevenses and lunch giving a welcome chance to relax and chat.

By the end of the day, all participants will perform a free concert at 4.20-5pm of these choruses for family and friends – so tell them to come along and bring a friend.

The workshop cost per person at €20 (own score), €25 (need score) is reasonable and there is a special €10 price for students /refugees.

TCS is embedded in the Tallaght community having been established by a local Dominican priest almost 60 years ago.

While the group have grown from a small church choir to a well regarded choral society, we have never lost our strong commitment to Tallaght.

So they are delighted to be asked to be one of the headline acts for the Tallaght Person of the Year Awards to be held on Sunday, November 12 in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght.

As usual, this year we will take part in the annual Remembrance Service and Carol Service in St Mary’s.

In addition, we were very honoured to be invited to be an integral part of the Dominican Jubilee 2024.

This is a momentous year for this Order as it celebrates the 800th anniversary of the arrival of the Dominican friars in Dublin.

As part of the Jubilee 2024 celebrations, Tallaght Choral Society will perform a full orchestral performance of Handel’s Messiah on 14 April 2024 in the Helix Theatre.
