Health Awareness Month has something free for everyone

TALLAGHT Health Awareness Month is entering its fourth week of free community-based events, with a range of relevant, accessible and engaging activities ahead.

Next week, October 24 to 28, there’s something for everyone – from yoga in Fettercairn to a brain health workshop in Firhouse; from a COPD exercise class in Rua Red, to a dementia talk in Belgard, and holistic therapies in St Aonghusa.

Tallaght Library is also the venue for two talks, the first on endometriosis and how it can be treated and the second on the signs of substance abuse in teenagers.

The Marie Keating Foundation is continuing to visit local communities and next week will be dropping by the Fettercairn Community Centre and Pharmacy Hub in Killinarden.

The team will provide information and answer any cancer concerns both men and women may have.

Health month is run by the Fettercairn Health Project, which is part of the South Dublin County Partnership.

Samantha Griffin, Fettercairn Health Project co-ordinator, told The Echo that to date there’s been a good response and positive feedback.

Stressing that health awareness month is the community’s event, Samantha said: “I continue to encourage everyone to get involved and to take part in at least one activity or workshop.

“This one activity could save a life even if it is a blood pressure or pulse check.

“Alongside connecting with the community and learning about local supports and services, locals in the community will receive information that can have a positive impact on their health or a family member’s physical or mental health.”
