Community fundraiser establishes his own event management firm

By Mary Dennehy

WELL-known community volunteer and avid fundraiser James Lumumba has established his own event management company, with the Jobstown entrepreneur offering local businesses an engaging team building experience.

The winner of the Community Award at last year’s Tallaght Person of the Year, James has spent the past three years devising and organising unique and fun charity fundraising events – in a voluntary capacity.

Volunteering opened up many opportunities for James, who enrolled himself on an event management, marketing and PR course to assist with his charity endeavours – which, alongside three years of experience, has supported him in the establishment of his own event management company, Peacock Event and Design.

James has devised a team building event inspired by the TV series The Cube, and is using games from the show to support communication, work relations and leadership within the work place.

He told The Echo: “I currently have eight games from The Cube and am looking to get four more.
“The only thing I don’t have is the giant cube – that wouldn’t be very easy to get around!

“However, I can come to any office or site with the games and will organise and run the team building session, which can provide long-term benefits to organisations of all sizes and help improve morale, leadership skills, increased productivity and problem-solving.

“The event is designed and delivered in a way that will enhance relationships and trust between workmates.”

James has already delivered The Cube to a number of businesses, with one customer Allianz Global Assistance claiming that it was one of “the most successful team-building social events” that they have provided in a recent years.

James said: “The Cube promotes team communication and encourages motivation in a fun, relaxed and friendly environment – with corporate packages tailored and adopted to suits groups of all sizes and budgets.

“The experience I have gotten from organising charity events has benefited me so much and has opened up new interests and opportunities for me.

“Despite setting up my own business, I will continue to work on fundraising events – and two pretty big events are planned for next year.”

The Cube is up and running for business events. For further details contact James at Peacock Events and Design on 087 4135537.
