Community grieves for young boy Sean after pony and trap accident

BAWNOGUE parish was heaving with emotion during the funeral service for Sean Doyle.
Sean (12) tragically died in a freak accident between a pony and trap and a council drainage truck last Friday.
The Melrose estate youngster died doing what he loved, according to parish priest Fr Brian Starken, who said Sean was an “animal lover” and that his death had “touched a chord” in the community.
The Church of Transfiguration was packed on Tuesday, with former and current classmates from Nano Nagle and Scoil Talbot, visibly distraught and in tears during the service.
Sean’s mother Stacey, originally from Ballyfermot, was comforted by family and friends.
Sean’s brother Dillon called Friday, February 26 “the darkest day” for the family, and delivered a moving eulogy for his younger brother.
“We don’t know how much time we have, but if I had more time, I’d tell him how much I loved him,” said Dillon.
Dillon continued: “I remember the first time I held you when you were born. The feelings I had when I first looked your eyes could never be put into words. I knew you were special.
“Sean was the kindest person you could know – no matter how much he had, he was always willing to share.”
Gifts to the altar included a gift box by Sean’s classmates.
The animal and bike lover only celebrated his 12th birthday two weeks ago, and was due to make his confirmation at the end of April.
Fr Starken praised Sean’s “free spirit”, noting how his grandmother Mary had to build a wall in the back garden when he was four, to contain his “sense of adventure.”
He said he was moved by the messages of support from around the country, and the memorial walk by members of the community.
Last week, more than 2,000 friends and neighbours walked in a memorial walk for Sean – members of the community raised €20,000 for funeral costs.
Scoil Talbot choir performed a number of stirring renditions including, Here I Am and Amazing Grace, whilst prayers for the truck driver were expressed by family members.
South Dublin County Council CEO Daniel McLoughlin sent a letter to local representatives in the wake of the tragedy.
Mr McLoughlin said: “I regret to inform you that two council employees were involved in a road traffic incident in Clondalkin this afternoon in which a member of the public died. The incident is currently being investigated by the gardaí.
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest and sincere sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.”
Sean is mourned by his parents Stacey and David, his brother Dillon, younger sister Hope and grandparents Mary and Joe.
