Community ‘overwhelmed’ with planning applications
By Maurice Garvey
OBJECTIONS to a proposal for new homes in Walkinstown expresses concerns of an “overwhelmed’ community via existing planning applications that are being “squeezed” into the area.
Developers Canmar Properties are seeking permission to build eight residential houses in two blocks at a site on Walkinstown Road.
The site on Walkinstown Road planned for eight residential units
The proposal also includes the demolition of an industrial building, yards and grounds to the rear of houses on Walkinstown Road and Thomas O’Moore Road.
Canmar are the group behind an already granted planning permission in the area for a mixed-use development containing 70 apartments at a site bounded and accessed by both Walkinstown Road and Balfe Road.
A number of residents have objected to the latest Canmar proposal, stating the blocks will “completely overlook” and “tower over” existing houses on Walkinstown Road.
Residents say Walkinstown is “currently being overwhelmed and hemmed in by new developments”, citing residential projects at the Halfway House, Drimnagh and the other Canmar site.
Recently, Double E investments submitted planning permission for 52 apartments at the site of the Kestrel Pub on Walkinstown Roundabout.
The latest Canmar plans contain proposals for the demolition of existing warehouse building and all other structures on site, construction of eight residential houses, associated access road widening car parking spaces, landscaping, boundary treatments and all associated site development works and services.
Dublin City planners have requested additional information surrounding transportation planning from the applicant.
