IN THE lead-up to Halloween, South Dublin County Council received 27 reports of bonfire materials in the Lucan/Palmerstown/Fonthill local electoral area.

At the November council meeting of the Lucan/Palmerstown/ Fonthill area committee, Councillor Madeleine Johansson asked the council, “how many reports of bonfire materials were received prior to Halloween in the area, including which sites, and how many of those sites had bonfire material removed?”

In their reply the council said they received 27 reports of bonfire material in the period up to Halloween.

The sites of the material included the estates of Rowlagh, Shancastle, Quarryvale, Collinstown Park and St Mark’s in Clondalkin and Tor an Rí, Foxborough, Earlsfort, Ballyowen Lane and Waterstown Park in Lucan and Palmerstown.

The council added: “Staff were actively collecting material in parks and open spaces that were not reported. All locations in public ownership that were reported had material collected from them.

Priority locations targeted for collections included those where bonfires were being constructed in close proximity to houses, power lines, roadsides and transport routes.”
