Crowd delighted with drama and the Mrs Brown sketch

A CLONDALKIN lady helped to put on a very entertaining drama sketch in North Clondalkin library last Thursday morning.

“There was a great crowd, they were delighted with it,” said Pauline Faye, Clondalkin.

Pauline also got great assistance from John Colgan, also Clondalkin.

“We did a sketch from Mrs Brown where Agnes and Winnie talk about family life, going to the bingo.

“It’s about friends being able to talk about anything and they do talk about anything,” said Pauline.

There were others who helped to make the drama a great success too.

“Kay does the show-stopping songs, Bernie does the funny poetry and the ukulele’s sing and play,” said Pauline.

This sketch will also be performed again on April 9 in the Round Towers GAA club from 10 am to 12.30pm for the Active Age and for anyone who would like to see it.

Pauline also teaches ukulele every Tuesday night from 5.30 to 7 pm in North Clondalkin library.

“It’s all free,” said Pauline.

Pauline’s interest in the ukulele arose five years ago when a group of ladies from Newcastle came to the Round Towers club.

“I thought ‘I would really like to learn that’,” said Pauline.

There are many benefits to learning how to play the ukulele, including for the elderly.

“It’s great for older people and for those who live alone, it’s very good for being active and having a social life and for those who may have lost a loved one, it’s a support too.

“It’s very good for memory loss and arthritis,” said Pauline.

According to Pauline the ukulele is not a difficult instrument to learn.

“My group have been together five months and they are putting on shows,” said Pauline.

Also one doesn’t have to have any expectations when beginning to learn the ukulele, according to Pauline.

Some of those attending Pauline’s lessons have bought ukuleles, generally at a cost of €60.

One can also get a ukulele for €5 from North Clondalkin library, according to Pauline.

“You can hand the ukulele back to the library if you decide not to continue with it and you get your €5 back,” said Pauline.

There are currently 24 in the group that Pauline teaches.
