Daire moving well in Junior Saloon Car Championship
DAIRE Flock the is leading the Junior Saloon Car Championship in the UK, entering his last round at Thruxton in Andover, Hampshire.
Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the calendar and the first time for JSCC has held a meeting there, with the forecast for changeable weather conditions this would make for an interesting meeting for Daire.
In qualifying, the rain started that led to a red flag and an issue with the car appeared, that only left Daire six minutes to do three laps to record his two fastest laps for race 1 & 2.
Qualifying second on the grid for both races, the first race on Saturday, saw the 16-year-old from Tallaght get off to a good start and led off the line with third place starter on his tail.
He remained in this position for the majority of the race until the last lap where they both approached the club chicane on the limit when they touched, and CJ Morgan ran to the line to win.
After reviewing the incident, the Stewart’s judged that he took the racing line and demoted CJ Morgan to second with a five second penalty.
The second race on Sunday was wet and greasy, Daire’s start was compromised by missing second gear and lost drive, he managed to stay in the lead, until the safety car came out.
His restart wasn’t the best and this left him exposed to the pack, he was demoted to get second, which he held for the last two laps in greasy conditions.
On the last lap he had the possibility of an overtake but decided to hold station and take second with the championship in mind.
The 16-year-old from Tallaght said “it was a difficulty weekend with issues with the car and the changeable weather conditions, I’m happy with a win and 2nd I’m still championship leader going to Croft in two weeks.”
This ends Daire’s nine-win winning streak as we are at the halfway stage in the championship.
