
Dead rabbits found on the banks of the Dodder

LOCAL reports of dead rabbits along the banks of the Dodder from Firhouse into Cherryfield are on the increase, with South Dublin County Council visiting the area on Tuesday, August 14 – and finding two dead rabbits.
While a number of reports have been posted online by residents and local groups, South Dublin County Council has said that, as of yet, it has not received any complaints from members of the public in relation to dead rabbits.

However, after being contacted by The Echo, staff from the council’s Public Realm Section walked the area on Tuesday, August 14.
According to the council: “The council has not received any complaints from members of the public with regard to dead rabbits around the Dodder, Dodder Valley Park or Cherryfield areas.
“Staff from the Public Realm Section walked the area [on Tuesday morning] and two dead wild rabbits were removed.
“It is not possible to ascertain whether these rabbits died from natural causes, disease, or were killed by other wildlife.
“Public Realm staff will continue to monitor the area.”
Any sightings of dead rabbits in the area should be reported to South Dublin County Council on 4149000.
