€2.5m awarded to projects in South Dublin County

OVER €2.6m has been awarded to projects in South Dublin County through the Community Recognition Fund.

The highest amount, totalling €391,820, has been awarded to St Mary’s GAA Club in Saggart for the upgrade of their pitch into an all-weather pitch with associated lighting and boundary treatments.

The Saggart Schoolhouse Community Centre has been awarded €380,000 for enhancements to include boundary upgrade, drainage, landscaping, play/activity areas, and outdoor seating.

A total of €350,000 has been provided for a new all-weather pitch at Knockmitten Park in Clondalkin, while €200,000 will be used to upgrade the playspace and for a new half-court multi-use games area (MUGA).

Other projects that have been awarded €200,000 each include an upgrade to Carrigmore Park in Citywest, and for the installation of a gamer space and sensory supports in Tallaght Library.

A project in Saggart village and Citywest, consisting of the installation of ten public Wi-Fi points, eight in community buildings, four Wi-Fi benches, and live-streaming equipment at Saggart Community Centre, has been awarded €185,000.

Similar projects in Tallaght and Clondalkin, consisting of ten public Wi-Fi points, four Wi-Fi benches, and four Wi-Fi access points in community buildings in each area, have been awarded €100,000.

A total of €107,485 has been awarded for an Astro pitch at Round Towers GAA Club in Clondalkin, while €100,000 has been awarded to the Fettercairn Horse Project for surface and fencing upgrades.

Funding of €70,000 each has been awarded for the development of half-court MUGAs in Rathcoole Park, Sean Walsh Park, and in Clondalkin.

A community bus managed by South Dublin County Council in conjunction with South Dublin Volunteer Centre has been awarded funding of €65,000.

The fit-out of a new age-friendly centre at Orchard Lodge in Clondalkin has been awarded €25,000, while €15,000 has been awarded for minor upgrades to Rathcoole Football Club’s facilities.

The projects were supported by the Community Department of South Dublin County Council, who also submitted them for the new funding stream.
