Echo Year in Review: November 2023

PROTESTS were held outside Cherry Orchard Hospital following the news that elderly patients were to be moved to a private nursing home.

Families of the patients called the HSE “devoid of empathy” for moving forward with the plan.

Clondalkin man Paddy Maloney, who was homeless in Edinburgh and battled drug and alcohol addiction, turned his life around and was selected to represent Scotland at the Homeless World Cup.

Comedian Al Porter shared his joy at being back on stage, after making a triumphant return to Vicar Street with a sold-out show.

This followed from his tentative first steps back to the stage almost 12 months previously, when he performed at a charity gig in the Dragon Inn in his native Tallaght.  

A young boy, who underwent brain surgery and was on life support when he was barely two years old, defied the odds and performed on The Late Late Toy Show.

Kelson Lahiffe (10), from Brookview in Tallaght, performed as one of an assortment of Kens who sang and danced to the lead song from the hit film ‘Barbie The Movie’.

‘A Ramble About Tallaght’ hit bookshop shelves this month.

Popular local historian Albert Perris released his book ‘A Ramble About Tallaght: History, People, Places’, published by O’Brien Press. 

Albert released the book with the aim of telling “the tales of Tallaght that haven’t been told before”.

Nico Crowley was named Tallaght Person of the Year

Nico Crowley was announced as Tallaght Person of the Year 2023 at a glittering awards ceremony in the Civic, at which he proudly wore his late father’s trilby.

The Millbrook Lawns native is well known in the community for being involved in sports clubs and charitable causes – and also as a well-liked taxi driver.

Clondalkin Drugs and Alcohol Task Force community representative forum

The Clondalkin Drug and Alcohol Task Force’s community representative frum launched their Building Voices project in Vue Cinema, Liffey Valley.

The project highlighted the issues associated with substance misuse.
