Enda’s Under 16s advance in championship

BALLYBODEN St Enda’s Under 16 footballers edged past Lucan Sarsfields and into the last eight of the championship after a win at Sancta Maria on Saturday.

It was a tense start to the game as Lucan drew first blood with a point after five minutes before ‘Boden responded with five on the trot, Malachy Codd and Cillian Wall shooting superbly.

Lucan were to have a subsequent good spell before ‘Boden found the net in the 20th minute. John McGuire played a ball through to Enda Cashman and the talented forward kept his cool to dispense the ball to the net after gliding pass their keeper.

Sarsfields did clip on a few more points to lead by the minimum at the break.

Pierce Christie and Enda Cashman at midfield kept up the unrelenting pace, with Peter Gannon supporting them.

Cian Maher and Dean Ralph were the twin engines on the flanks racing up from half back as ‘Boden opened up a three-point lead.

Still Lucan kept coming and ‘Boden were thankful; for a super full-length save from Jake Turley with five left on the clock.

Further attacks were thwarted in the dying minutes by Joey Donohoe and Enda Cashman.

Whitehall now await Ballyboden in the quarter final on April 22.
