Firefighters attend 14-hour barn fire

FIREFIGHTERS attended a 14-hour barn fire in Lucan and had to utilise a water tanker due to the lack of water hydrants and inability to access the River Liffey.

Fire Units from Tallaght and Blanchardstown were at the scene in St Edmundsbury on Friday night, from 8pm until 10am Saturday morning.

One water tanker brings 14,500 litres of water to the scene.

The Echo understands the farmer used a teleporter to move hay out of the way.

A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “There was a massive amount of hay on the farm.

A big problem was the water. Usually we can take from the Liffey but in that location, the embankment was too high, a big height difference.”
