Former council CEO to step aside from role in Peter McVerry Trust

FORMER South Dublin County Council chief executive Danny McLoughlin, the interim CEO for the past three months at Peter McVerry Trust, is to step aside following the appointment of Niall Mulligan as its new CEO.

Previous CEO Francis Doherty tendered his resignation in October warning of “imminent financial collapse” faced by PMVT with “insufficient funds to meet creditor, payroll and Revenue commitments.”

Mr McLoughlin retired from SDCC in May after ten years at the helm of the local authority, and with over 30 years management and leadership experience in local government, was seen as an ideal person by the trust’s board to help the organisation to navigate an “unprecedented challenge.”

Chair of Peter McVerry Trust (PMVT) Deirdre-Ann Barr said Mr Mulligan has demonstrated a clear commitment to human rights and social justice.

Mr Mulligan is the National Secretary of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and has been working in the charity sector since 1990.

He will take up the position of CEO in mid-April.

Before Christmas, the Government agreed to give a bailout worth €15m to the cash strapped charity on the condition of reform in the organisation.

The Charities Regulator and the Approved Housing Bodies Regulatory Authority were both appointed to carry out separate investigations into one of the largest housing charities in the country which received over €38 million in state funding in 2021.
