GARDAI are investigating a burglary that occurred at a house in Elmcastle Green in Kilnamanagh last week, and they also received reports of an intruder gaining entry to two other houses in the Kilnamanagh area last week.

A garda spokesman told The Echo: “Gardai in Tallaght are investigating a burglary at a house in Elmcastle Green.

“Intruders gained entry in the early hours of July 10, 2019, and made off with a sum of cash and a number of electronic items.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

“Gardai also received reports from residents of an intruder gaining entry into two other houses in the area, but nothing was taken.”

Crime prevention tips have been posted on An Garda Síochána website, where it is advised that homeowners can reduce the potential for a burglar to gain access to their property by ensuring doors and windows are locked, using a house alarm and storing keys safely.

In relation to securing your home when you’re on holiday, Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Graham Kavanagh said last month at the launch of the EU Focus Day on Domestic Burglaries: “Remember to make your home look occupied, particularly if you intend to be away for an extended period.

“Once your home is locked and alarmed, ask a neighbour to regularly check your property, use timer switches or apps to turn on lights, cancel deliveries, tidy the garden and watch what you post on social media.

“Keep the surprises for your holiday and not when you return.”
