ST RAPHAEL’S primary school in Ballyfermot received their fifth international green flag recently from An Taisce at the Helix, DCU campus.

Over the past two years, each class in the school completed a project on various habitats, woodland and grasslands.

Pupils planted flowers, trees, vegetables and herbs in the school grounds – engaged in bark rubbings, nature walks, species surveys and created a wormery.

Caretaker Nick Reid has been instrumental in helping pupils share responsibility for the school garden – which features herbs, alpines, vegetables, bird boxes, wildlife area, compost heap and a native wildflower patch.

Ms Walsh, co-ordinator of Green Schools at St Raphael’s said: “All pupils, parents and staff have worked very hard in caring for our environment and we are delighted to be receiving this award.”
