Have Your Say: ‘What do you think should be done about dog fouling?’

As South Dublin County Council aims to enforce legislation through the appointment of two additional litter wardens – and a raised visibility of these wardens in public places – we asked: ‘What do you think should be done about dog fouling?’

Michelle Hayden – Tallaght

“People should be getting done for not picking up after their dog. Everyday walking through Tallaght village I’m faced with it and I think there should be dedicated bins and bags available across all villages and parks.

“I think the council has a role in encouraging people to act differently. If you have a dog you have a licence to act responsible.”

Shay Purdy – Tallaght

“There should be visible dog bins and bags around. Dog waste around the place is a big problem and I don’t think a lot of people bring bags with them.

“I guess it’s not just about training dogs, we need to train people to change their ways.”

Lauren Gannon – Tallaght

“In general, dog waste is everywhere and you end up spending most of your time dodging it while you’re out walking.

“I don’t know how it can be tackled. We can put signs up and have fines, but if there’s no one there watching when your dog goes, how can it be enforced?”

Gillian O’ Neill – Tallaght

“It doesn’t particularly bother me, but looking around it’s easy to see how it can destroy an area and it’s not healthy for kids.

“I think it’s hard for some people to remember how important it is to pick it up, but dog owners need to change their mindset and bring a bag.”
