Hospital kicks off ‘Let’s Talk About’ series of health lectures

A SPECIALIST nurse from Tallaght University Hospital is leading a talk on endometriosis in Tallaght Library on March 28.

The event kicks off the local hospital’s ‘Let’s Talk About’ series, which includes public lectures on different health matters.

Rebecca McEvoy, a clinical nurse manager with specialist training in endometriosis, will give the first talk.

According to Ms McEvoy: “There is no cure for endometriosis, but treatments aimed at controlling symptoms are available.

“These include painkillers, hormone medicines, contraceptives and surgery.

“Other things that can help include a good diet, reducing stress, promoting sleep, exercise and physiotherapy.

“I would be very happy to take questions at the end of my talk in Tallaght Library and all are very welcome to attend”.

According to Tallaght University Hospital (TUH), endometriosis is experienced by one in 10 women in Ireland and is a long-term condition that can have a significant impact both physically and emotionally on women’s lives.

Ahead of the talk in Tallaght Library, the hospital also highlighted its expertise in the area of endometriosis.

“TUH has an expert medical team that cares for women suffering from Endometriosis”, the hospital said in a statement.

“In a recent positive development, it has just been announced that the hospital has received funding confirmation for the development of a new Women’s Health Unit (WHU) at Tallaght Cross West, just across the road from the main hospital campus.

“Access to early diagnosis and effective treatment of endometriosis can improve management of the disease, which can affect women of all age groups but is less likely to present post menopause and in teenage years.”

As reported on previously in The Echo, TUH has also been selected as one of two supra regional centres in Ireland to provide care for those suffering from advanced endometriosis.

The public talk on Endometriosis will be held in the Conference Room of Tallaght Library on March 28 at 2pm.

Everyone is welcome.
