Housing list figures in Ballyfermot are “misleading”

THE latest housing figures for Ballyfermot which show 350 applicants scrubbed off the list are “misleading”, according to Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan.

Cllr Doolan said: “According to latest housing figure, 350 applicants have been scrubbed off Ballyfermot’s housing list.

“In January, 2016, there were 2,837 applicants on the housing list for Ballyfermot, that figure rose to 2,850 in May, 2016.

“But the latest figures, in January 2017, the figure dropped to 2,587. This is not because people were housed but because people were removed off the list. “

Across Dublin South Central the housing list has dropped by 908, but Cllr Doolan, Chair of the Dublin City housing committee, says “we have not built anywhere near that many homes.”

He continued: “It is simply not true that city council housed all these people. The simple fact is that people have been removed from the housing list.

“This is not the way to reduce the figures. The way to reduce the figures is to build social and affordable homes.”
