Huge week for Rovers going for 4-in-a-row

IT’S A HUGE week for Shamrock Rovers who will be bidding to secure the Airtricity League title for the fourth year running.

Over 1,100 Rovers supporters are expected to travel to Richmond Park as Stephen Bradley’s side go head-to-head with St Patrick’s Athletic in a crunch tie.

While only three points separate both Rovers and second place Pat’s, a point in Richmond Park would put the Hoops that much closer as there is a 14-goal gap between the sides.

Both Rovers and Pat’s come into this match on a high note with Jon Daly’s side securing European Football following their 1-0 victory over Sligo Rovers last weekend in Richmond Park.

Kian Leavy’s goal proved vital for St Pat’s as it proved the match-winner and it meant Pat’s could not be caught by Bohemians in third place.

Rovers on the other hand came back from a three-week break to cruise past Drogheda United 5-0 in Tallaght Stadium.

The Hoops certainly recharged their batteries during the break as they dominated from start to finish against Drogs and will be hoping to continue this form against St Pat’s.

Neil Farrugia made a welcome return for Rovers and adds so much strength to the side while Johnny Kenny and Trevor Clarke led by example.

Clarke got the ball rolling for the Hoops with a goal after six minutes while Kenny and Towell also found the range.

Rovers, strength in depth is clearly evident this year with Kenny, on loan from Celtic, proving a big addition while Rory Gaffney is a superb leader up front.

Rovers have matches against Cork City on bank holiday Monday and Sligo Rovers in their final league match in Tallaght Stadium on Friday week.
