Iceland’s largest store in Ireland opens in Tallaght

THE changing face of Tallaght village is set to continue this week when frozen food chain Iceland opens its largest Irish store in a ground-level unit at the New Bancroft apartment complex.

The 15,000 sq m development, which has generated 35 new jobs, is a new design move for Iceland – which has installed travellators to transport customers between the 200-space underground car park and the store.

Public parking will also be available at street level beside the Leisureplex, with the frozen food chain accessed through a new pedestrian walkway which is located between Molloy’s Pub and the apartment block.

In recent months, the public car park to the front of the new apartments also underwent significant improvement works, which includes repaving, fitted seats and landscape planting.

Work on the new store is continuing this week as Iceland prepares for its grand Tallaght opening this Tuesday, April 11, at 9am.

Speaking with The Echo, Iceland Ireland MD Ron Metcalfe said: “We are excited to be coming back to Tallaght.

“Our Tallaght branch closed back in 2005, so this kind of feels like we’re coming home.

“What we’ve done with the new store in Tallaght is totally different for us, so we’re all really excited about that as well . . . with the store having an in-house bakery, in-store coffee facilities, homewares and much more.

“We’ll also have a home delivery service and will be launching our new bonus card in-store on Tuesday, when there will also be lots of sampling, opening offers and, for the first two weeks, there’ll be a free croissant with every coffee purchased.”

He added: “This will be our biggest store in Ireland and we can’t wait to get opened on Tuesday.”

Mr Metcalfe confirmed that 35 staff jobs were created through the opening of the store.

The new Iceland will open at 9am on Tuesday, April 11, with opening hours going forward being 8am to 8pm, Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 9pm, Thursday and Friday, 8am 8pm on Saturday and 10am to 7pm on Sunday.

The Echo newspaper did contact Park Developments about plans for the New Bancroft apartment block which, lying off the Tallaght bypass, has undergone significant completion work in recent months.

However, Park Developments could not confirm any details at this stage.
