IT Tallaght set to go green
By Mary Dennehy
IT TALLAGHT is the latest college to join An Taisce’s Green Campus programme, with students and staff now working together to earn the coveted Green Flag.
The road to a Green Flag takes around two years, with the college community now following a seven step programme that supports the campus to improve its environmental operations, awareness and behaviours – with the involvement of as many staff and students as possible crucial to its success.
Tallaght resident, part time ITT lecturer and An Taisce Education Officer Gary Tyrell, who is well known for his volunteer and voluntary environmental work across the area, told The Echo: “The response already has been fantastic, with several meetings having taken place up to this point, with full support from senior management - especially Fiona Cranely, Head of Engineering - as well as the Estates Team, various lecturers, students and now we have the library and student union on board too.
“We will be hoping to expand the team further as we progress and urge any staff and students interested in getting involved to get in touch with myself or any of the ITT Green Campus committee pictured.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in ITT interested in environmental issues to meet like-minded people to work on meaningful projects, in a fun and engaging way, while developing skills and making new friends.
“If anyone in ITT has ideas on how to improve ITT environmentally or wants to work on a related topic for a college project or thesis, get in touch with us now.”
