ITT men pipped for Intervarsity title
IT TALLAGHT came up just short in their bid for the NBCC Men’s B Intervarsities Basketball title after they lost out 72-66 DCU in the final in Trinity College on Sunday.
The team had produced a stunning comeback in the third quarter after having found themselves 11 points adrift of their opponents at the halftime break.
Omar Arcilla and Aidan Dunne turned in top-drawer performances, the former emerging the team’s top score on 21 points with Dunne adding 17 while Tomasz Swiatowy weighed in with 12.
DCU, who had lost the services of Paddy Sullivan to foul trouble early in the third, were forced to weather a strong revival by their Tallaght opponents that ultimately fell just short of seeing them clinch the prize.
Indeed the game’s top scorer Andrew McGeever on 22 points and Conor Gilligan with 13, steadied the DCU ship with some late scores that saw them over the line.
