Kevin will be featured on Laochra Gael
LAOCHRA Gael is returning to screens in 2026 for its 24th season with St Judes’ star Kevin McManamon set to be featured in the final episode of the season.
McManamon is certainly deserving of his place on the show.
Eight All-Irelands to his name along with 10 Leinster titles leave him as one of the most decorated players in the history of the sport, admittedly alongside the rest of the Dublin panel during the 2010s.
Perhaps his most remembered will be from the 2011 All Ireland final, coming on as a substitute late into the second half, McManamon scored a goal to reduce the deficit from four points to one and Dublin would go on to win the game and their first All-Ireland Championship in 16 years.
First coming to screens in 2001, Laochra Gael has become a staple of GAA media, profiling some of the greatest players to have played the game.
This season will be no different and joining McManamon will be seven other legends of the game.
The first episode will highlight ex Monaghan ace Conor McManus.
The episodes after will feature the following, Cyril Farrell, Grace Walsh, Marty Clarke, Padraig Horan, Neil McManus & Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh.
GAA President Jarlath Burns spoke on the return of the show.
.“Laochra Gael has become a mainstay on the GAA broadcasting landscape – a series that is eagerly awaited by those who play and support our games.
‘Who could have imagined when the concept was first hatched that it would carve out such a special niche for itself, bringing the stories behind the games and the players to life in such a vivid and engaging way.
‘If anything, the offerings in recent years have gone from strength to strength and it is testimony to Nemeton and TG4 and their love of our games and our language that the series continues to thrive. I wish them continued success and look forward to the latest instalments.”
TG4 Director General Deirdre Ní Choistín also offered comment.
“TG4 is delighted to broadcast the 24th season of Laochra Gael, recognising the talent and sporting excellence of GAA, Ladies Football and Camogie heroes.
‘I would like to congratulate all of the players featured in this new season and to thank Nemeton for the consistent quality, trustworthiness and entertainment they bring to the telling of these stories.
‘Year on year Laochra Gael is one of TG4’s most popular series, both on television and on the TG4 Player, holding a special appeal to audiences at home and abroad.
‘This year, for the first time ever, TG4 viewers and sports fans will have the opportunity to watch the following episode on the TG4 Player ahead of broadcast, reflecting TG4’s ambition to be a platform-neutral content provider.”
The first episode of the season featuring Conor McManus will be shown on TG4 at 9.30pm on January 22nd with subsequent episodes being shown each Thursday evening at the same time
