Kiely looking at alternative title route to elusive Brazier

RICHIE Kiely is not likely to get his shot at Lonsdale Welterweight title holder Terry Brazier.

The Englishman has, so far, refused to entertain calls for a clash with the Tallaght man, instead opting for an alternative trajectory that will take him closer to a world title by possibly facing the winner of the Nathan Jones and Alex Lohore fight that takes place in London on September 15.

Disappointed at not getting this shot at the Lonsdale title holder, Kiely told The Echo “He [Brazier] likes to grapple and take down his opponent, whereas my style is that one shot that will end the fight. It’s high risk, but it’s exciting.

“I can understand him not wanting to take the fight because, for him it’s a bad match-up stylistically. It’s too dangerous.

“I’ve just had two fights, but I knocked out my opponents emphatically and these were good fighters.

“One was 11 fights undefeated and [Keith] McCabe was strongly tipped as the next big fighter” he pointed out.

Kiely who is on his way back after an operation on a broken hand he sustained in knocking out Daniel Olejniczak in July, is looking to chalk up his third straight win in MMA.

Yet while the proposed Brazier fight is off the table, for now at least, he is being brought to London next week for a big fight announcement for the Bellator/BAMMA bill scheduled for November 10 in the 3Arena.

He will also be cage-side for the Walter Gahadza and Dan Edwards clash on BAMMA 31.

While Gahadza lost to Brazier for the Lonsdale title, many believe he will come through next month’s test.

Kiely remains very optimistic of eventually securing a title shot soon saying “I’m the BAMMA fighter making the biggest noise. I sold the most tickets in my last two shows.

“I’m the best striker in BAMMA, I’ve no doubt about that. I’ve had two knockouts and they were not even my heaviest hits” he insisted.
