LIDL Ireland has today confirmed that it will rebuild its store on Fortunestown Lane, with a new, larger store expected to be open to the public by late summer.

In a statement this afternoon, Lidl said that work on a new and improved, larger store will commence in the coming weeks – with the new store expected to be open to the public by late summer.

Last week, Lidl said that its decision to re-open a store in Fortunestown was “under review” – alongside its approved plans to build a larger supermarket on site.

However, in a statement released this afternoon, the company said: “Lidl Ireland is delighted to confirm that plans have been put in place to rebuild the store in Fortunestown following the events that took place on March 2nd.

“We have been blown away by the level of support received from our loyal customer base in the Fortunestown area over the past few weeks.

“We recognise that our service and store team have been greatly missed by the local community over the past few weeks and the team look forward to welcoming back our loyal customers once the rebuild is complete.”

All 30 staff members based at Fortunestown were redeployed after the store was damaged, with the team being re-employed at the new store once complete.
