A CLONDALKIN grandmother has promised to buy herself a new car after winning €42,000 on the National Lottery and RTE game show, Winning Streak.

They say good things come to good people and this is true for Angela McCarthy who, according to her son Darren, really deserves her stroke of luck as “she is the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it”.

A grandmother to 10 grandchildren and mother to three adult kids, Angela is certainly a busy woman.

She has been married to Gerry for 47 years.

Her son Darren recently moved back to Ireland from Barcelona where he lived for six years with his wife Elena, and two children Aidan and Liam.

Angela’s daughter Margaret also has two children Adam and Hanifa, with partner Martin.

Family sent a video of support

Her third child, Gerard, lives in the states with his wife Kim and watched the show online along with their 6 children; Evan, Hannah, Peter, Bella, Loughlin and Nora. Gerard and his family sent a video of support that was played to Angela on the show.

Angela (65) is retired and worked for years with a cleaning contracting company and indeed often cleaned the RTE studios.

Now she is a busy grandmother and spends her time between home in Clondalkin and visiting Margaret in Ballinakill in County Laois.

In her spare time, she is a keen bingo player and plays religiously every Thursday evening.

As well as her new car, Angela is going to treat her 10 grandchildren and three children… and of course, Gerry.
