PROPOSALS to create a community working group scheme linked with local gardai, will require approval from the Garda Commissioner.

A task force started up last year for a St Cuthbert’s Park in Clondalkin, containing local politicians, South Dublin County Council staff, gardai and community representatives.

However, progress on the working group has stalled, leaving some residents to question it’s effectiveness in dealing with ongoing anti-social issues at the troubled park.

Cllr Mark Ward said: “There has been no reconvening of the high level task force for St Cuthbert's Park since the initial meeting last year and residents and local groups such as Friends of St Cuthbert's and Clondalkin Celtic are frustrated by a lack of progress on developing the park.”

At the Clondalkin area meeting on Wednesday, Cllrs Ward and Francis Timmons asked for an update on the working group, and a date for the next meeting.

In response, SDCC said: “A meeting of this group has been scheduled for Friday, March 2. Proposals for the CCTV scheme is progressing, and currently it is becoming part of a community scheme, linked to An Garda Síochána, and was mentioned at recent February JPC meeting held on February 2.

“In order to install the community system approval from the Garda Commissioner is required and a project team comprised of council staff, members of AGS and the councils CCTV contractor has been established.

“This group is currently working on the scheme with a view to having it installed as soon as possible, subject to approval being received.”
