Lucan go down to Vin’s in final

LUCAN Sarsfields were defeated in the Senior 1 camogie final by St Vincent’s on Friday evening at Parnell Park, reports Michael Howley.

It was a long road to the final for Sarsfields with the side facing several challenges on the way.

They were somewhat fortunate to qualify from their group after losing two games however their points difference allowed them to progress into the semi finals where they took on Ballyboden St Enda’s.

They were certainly underdogs heading into that game as they were playing a Boden team which had completed a clean sweep of their group.

Lucan would come out on top after a closely contested game saw Sarsfields emerge with a 1-15 to 0-14 victory.

Vincents themselves found themselves in a very similar scenario, they played second fiddle to Ballyboden throughout the group stage before being paired up against St Judes in the semi final.

Similarly to Boden, St Judes had established themselves as the dominant force in their group and in all honesty a final pairing between themselves and Ballyboden looked to be the most likely outcome of the Senior 1 championship.

This would not be the case as it would be Vincent’s and Lucan overcoming the odds and progressing to the final.

The final would be a closely contested affair though Vincent’s would stamp their authority on the game. They would pick up the win via a 2-15 to 2-04 scoreline and be crowned Senior 1 champions.

Crumlin came up short in the Inter 2 Camogie final where they were defeated by six points against Fingallians last Sunday in a 2-11 to 3-14 scoreline.

Despite a rally in the second half Crumlin would come up short thanks to the opening half an hour where Fingallians managed to score an impressive 2-09.

Crumlin scored two goals of their own in the second half as well as scoring five more points but the gap would be too great to bridge and would see them come out in second place on the day.
