Fairy Demesne in Lucan1MAGIC hung in the air on Thursday as Woodland Fairy Trail was opened by South Dublin County Council.

The trail, which is located in Lucan Demesne, is home to 17 new fairies who moved in last week.
Mayor of South Dublin County councillor Sarah Holland officially opened the Fairy Demesne in front of a gathered crowd on Thursday.

The interactive fairy trail is the newest family attraction in Dublin and gives young visitors the opportunity to discover a series of colourful handmade wooden Irish Fairy Doors.
To create the woodland the council has, once again, come together with The Irish Fairy Door Company to provide homes for the magical little creatures.
Alison Silke and Paula Swayne, Sports and Recreation Officers with the council were delighted to see the new attraction open up locally.
They said: “What better way to spend an afternoon out in the fresh air at no cost with the only limit being your imagination. The Fairies have lots for you to discover and enjoy in Lucan Demesne.”
Smartphone technology will also let those visiting the Fairy Demesne find out all about the individual fairies who live behind each door.
Fine Gael cllr Vicki Casserly, who proposed a fairywood for Lucan in 2014, said: “I really pushed for it because it is something everyone can enjoy and it is totally inclusive – all you need is your imagination.”
Niamh Sherwin-Barry, Director at The Irish Fairy Door Company, said: “The staff in South Dublin County Council have really been on board from the start. With trails in both Corkagh Park and Tymon Park already, we are just thrilled to be sending some more fairies over to Lucan to set up home. Our friends in the council are true believers.
“We’re proud of the interactive content, which visitors can access from their smartphones whilst enjoying the trail and we know that our beautiful doors will open up a brand new world of imagination for parent and child alike – they provide a beautiful and unique way for adult and child to interact and play through the power of belief and magic, which is absolutely intrinsic in childhood and beyond.” For more information visit www.theirishfairydoorcompany.com
