
March Sports Star of the Month : Ann Woodlock
DONORE Harriers Athletics Club legend Ann Woodlock become a world champion in March when she was first over the line in the W80 3,000 meters in Toruń, Poland on the first day of the ninth World Indoor Masters Championships.
From Drimnagh, the 84-ear-old had been training diligently for the past few months and this work paid off when she was the clear winner of the race in a time of 19.52
The gold medal success followed a bronze medal in the same championships in the W80 1,500m as Ireland finished seventh in the medals table out of 44 countries.
“It was fantastic and brilliant atmosphere at the championships,” a delighted Ann told The Echo.
“I was very happy to get the bronze medal as there was a lot of new faces in this competition.
“There was some fabulous running at the championships and I’m delighted to win both the gold and silver medal.
“I’m so proud.”
