March Team of the Month: Glenanne men’s hockey team

IT HAS been a rollercoaster ride for Glenanne’s senior men’s hockey team over the past few weeks.

The Tallaght based outfit secured the Leinster Championship Mills Cup trophy after a hard-fought 3-0 victory against YMCA at Grange Road on St Patrick’s Day.

They club have now won it five times since the trophy’s inception and their first since 2017.

Wearing their traditional green, and buoyed on by their supporters, Glenanne took the lead in the 5th minute and never looked back after this – Gary Shaw continuing his purple patch in front of goal.

The side followed this up with a play-off spot in the All-Ireland leagues and they also qualified for the final of the All-Ireland Cup.

“Its great for our small club and community to win these titles,” said Glenanne player Shane O’Donoghue.

“The wins last month gave us a bit of belief and the last few weeks has been very enjoyable.

“It’s going really well now and we are looking forward to the big games over the next few weeks.
