As a result of the persistent rain today, a number of areas are also expected to be hit by flooding.

Although the rain will clear in the afternoon, there will be clouds and further drizzles, according to Met Eireann.

The Irish Meteorological Service said: “[It will be] very cold tonight with calm and clear conditions. Frost and icy patches will develop. Lowest temperatures of -4 to 0 degrees.”

AA Roadwatch commented: “Very wet throughout the city. Surface water and spot flooding is an issue in places so take care.”

It recommended that drivers should “keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front as spray may also affect visibility”.
