As Hurricane Ophelia makes landfall in the south and west of the country, those living in Dublin and the surrounding areas are being warned to stay off the roads and remain indoors this afternoon.

From 1pm today the winds in and around Dublin will reach speeds of between 90-130km.

Experts are warning that driving in these conditions could result is serious injury due flying debris, falling trees, and loose power lines.

The storm is expected to pass over Dublin in three to five hours from around 1pm. If you are in work, experts are advising you stay in the building until the storm has passed and then make your way home.

The message is clear: Do not travel or go outside during the peak of the storm in your area.
