‘Mobility Hub’ plaza to transform area

A PROPOSAL for a new public square adjacent to the Tallaght Luas stop and an improved public space to the front of Rua Red is on track for public consultation this August.

Called the Mobility Hub, proposed works include the transformation of an existing green space on The Square side of the Luas tracks into a new public plaza, with soft and hard landscaping.

Works will be enhanced by an improved public space to the front of Rua Red, which will link to the new public square.

Landscaping, parasols, tables, chairs, a new totem information post and feature lighting are proposed to the front of the county arts centre.

The proposed works at the Luas terminus have been agreed in principle – including outline designs with The Square and the National Transport Authority (NTA).

Alongside the Luas terminus, the new public square would also be located beside the future, proposed Bus Connects interchange.

If passed, the two areas would be a continuation of the Tallaght public realm scheme from Cookstown to the council buildings, which was approved in 2020.

The new public plaza and improved space at Rua Red will be funded by South Dublin County Council, and through funding secured via the central Government URDF (Urban Regeneration and Development Fund) programme.

If the project is approved, construction is expected to commence by the second quarter of 2022.
