New landmark playground will have ‘unique’ features

THE Corkagh Park playground is set to become a landmark destination in Dublin, with funding allocated for ‘major refurbishment’ works later this year.
Dublin Mid-West TD John Curran has received detailed information from the council on their planned improvements for the Corkagh Park playground, believing that these works will make the Clondalkin amenity a destination spot.
New playgound will be ‘dramatic’
According to Deputy Curran (Fianna Fáil): “I welcome the fact that South Dublin County Council recognises the need for extensive improvement works in Corkagh Park playground and have allocated funding to commence major refurbishment works later this year.”
He added: “This week the council has informed me that the designs are very well advanced and a tender process has concluded.
“A contractor is expected to be appointed in the coming weeks and works should commence later in the year.
“As well as installing new surfacing the revamped playground will be fully accessible to children with disabilities and will have a much wider range of equipment.
“It is also being expanded to include natural play areas.”
Deputy Curran said that he was also informed by the council that Corkagh will have some “unique and dramatic” features, and that it will become a “landmark” playground in the capital.
“The playground at Corkagh had become dated in recent years compared to new playgrounds that have been installed in the county such as Griffeen Valley Park in Lucan.
“Many residents had contacted my office in relation to the surface at the playground being inaccessible for children with disabilities and for buggies and prams, so I am delighted to hear that the surface and access is a priority for the council,” Deputy Curran said.
“On account of the size and scale of Corkagh Park the potential to create the park as a real destination place is huge and I am delighted that South Dublin County Council are making provisions for this.
“I will be calling on the council to include a number of improvements including car park and footpath resurfacing, improved park entrances, toilet renovations and a CCTV upgrade along with the playground overhaul.”
