No, says An Post, to plea for post office

By Echo Reporter

AN POST has refused to open a post office in the Greenhills Estate. This follows correspondence with An Post on the issue from local councillor Paul Foley.

The original post office has been closed since 2003 and many locals were hopeful that with new development in the area an opportunity would present itself for An Post to reinstate the post office to this area.

Post-Office Greenhills

Cllr Foley raised the issue with An Post who responded they “operate in a business environment where transaction levels are declining annually”.

The added: “An Post is of the view that, in these circumstances, the post office service needs of the general area are met by the Perrystown and the new Walkinstown post offices.”

Cllr Foley told The Echo that he was disappointed with the response from An Post. He said the issue of a new post office came up quite a bit when he was out canvassing for the recent general election.

He said “The post office service means so much more to a locality than just selling stamps. The wider benefits to the Greenhills community need to be taken into account by An Post when making these decisions.

“It is quite an elderly area and people rely on postal services. It is unfortunate that postal services are being reduced across the state.”

Cll Foley added: “ I will continue to put pressure on An Post and hopefully, in the future, we can get a positive response for the Greenhills area.”
