No transport forum to help deal with anti-social issues

ALTHOUGH Tallaght has a transport forum, no such forum exists yet in Clondalkin, which can be helpful in bringing matters of attention to the council.

Cllr Eoin Ó Broin (SocDems) asked South Dublin County Council if they have any role in addressing anti-social behaviour that has recently led to the curtailment of the 13 bus route through Bawnogue.

In response SDCC said: “The Transport Forum has been long established in the Tallaght area with members of An Garda Siochána, local elected representatives, estate management and the interagency section of the council who meet with members of the public transport providers, Luas, Dublin Bus and Go Ahead each month. An Garda Siochána are the lead agency who organise and chair the Transport Forum meetings. Council staff from estate management and interagency sections attend the Forum and answer queries in relation to council tenants, including issues regarding public realm, public lighting, footpaths, and implementing initiatives to prevent anti-social behaviour where possible. Reports from the Transport Forum are submitted to the Joint Policing Committee.

“There is currently no Transport Forum in the Clondalkin area so the anti-social behaviour leading to the curtailment of the 13 bus has not been brought to the council’s attention. To establish a Transport Forum, consultation will be required with An Garda Siochána to establish whether they can facilitate the meetings.”
