Olaniyan does it again for Jobstown
JOSH Olaniyan made it two from two in National Boxing Championship competition, adding the Boy Two 59kg title to the Boy One 57kg prize he won last year.
A 5-0 victory over Charlie Neill of Ballysillan saw the Tallaght lad raise the prize and secure his place in the line-up for this year’s Junior Cadet Championships.
“Josh was very comfortable all the way through,” recalled Jobstown coach Amanda Spencer.
“It was not even a very high-tempo fight. Josh is a tall rangy southpaw and he just outclassed his opponent,” she said.
He did have to work hard to see off the challenge of Dylan O’Brien of Fr Horgan’s in the last four, taking a split decision to secure his place in the decider.
On another note, Olaniyan’s Jobstown clubmate Chantelle Spencer has been chosen as part of an Irish female selection for a trip to Paris on May 5 when they will face off against a French junior selection.
