Kirwan goes all the way in Nationals
WESTSIDE Boxing Club’s Evan Kirwan captured the All-Ireland Boy Two 44.5kg title with a convincing 4-1 victory over Limerick’s John O’Reilly in the National Stadium on Saturday.
It marked the last stop on the road to the prize for the young Tallaght lad who beat off some strong opposition, none more so than O’Reilly.
“O’Reilly is a very good boxer, but Evan kept his composure and kept it simple with straight punches down the middle,” said Westside coach Frank Stacey.
In the semi-finals, Kirwan brought an early close to his clash with Jake Butler of All Saints, stopping his opponent in the opening round.
It was a great achievement given that it was his first National competition, and one that propels him through to the Junior Cadet Nationals next month.
