One arrested after burglary at butchers involving stolen car

People in the Stepaside area have once again called for the local Garda station to reopen after the latest attack on a local business.

One man has been arrested and another is being sought by Gardai after a burglary at a butchers in Stepaside in the early hours of this morning.

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in Dun Laoghaire after he was spotted running from a vehicle that was seen at the store where the burglary occurred.

Speaking this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí were alerted to a burglary in the area at approximately 2:30am.

“On arrival, it was discovered that a sum of money and stock had been stolen.

“Two males were observed leaving the scene in a silver car which had previously been reported stolen.

“At approximately 3:30am, Gardaí in Dun Laoghaire arrested a man in the St Patricks Crescent area of Dun Laoghaire, who was seen running from a silver car matching the description of the car involved.

“Following a search of the car, Gardaí discovered items believed to have been stolen during the course of the burglary.

“The man is currently being detained in Dun Laoghaire Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1994.”
