Over 4,500 people attend food and cultural event in Tymon
OVER 4,500 people attended an International Food and Cultural Event in Tymon Park on Saturday, where they got to explore a global food village, listen to some live music and enjoy picnics.
Many attendees took the opportunity to soak up the sun while enjoying cuisine from all over the world in the family-friendly atmosphere.
The day was organised by Dublin Market Events with support from South Dublin County Council, Dublin’s Outdoors, and the South Dublin Local Enterprise Office.
A spokesperson for South Dublin County Council told The Echo that approximately 4,500 people went to the event and they explained why the local authority decided to hold it.
“As part of the council’s endeavour to build and foster inclusive communities, the local authority held an International Food Festival to promote cuisine and craft from other cultures,” they said.
“Celebrating the diversity of our county is extremely important to SDCC.

“The popularity of the event met SDCC and event organisers’ expectations.
“The event was meticulously planned to accommodate the large number of participants and visitors on the day.”
Also there on the day were a number of local councillors, including Mayor Alan Edge (Ind), Mick Duff (Ind), Pamela Kearns (Lab), Lilian Guéret (FF), and Teresa Costello (FF).

Cllr Duff told The Echo: “I’ve been aware of Tymon Park since the day it was officially opened in the early 80s.
“I’ve watched it develop into its many different guises and the different events that have been held there, and I genuinely think that the event on Saturday was one of the best that I’ve witnessed.
“The atmosphere was pure carnival – there was everything from tacos to lobster rolls.

“It was amazing, and it had a real feel-good factor.”
A spokesperson for the council said that plans for a similar event next year are ongoing, but “no concrete commitments have been given yet as [to] what will be delivered”.
