THERE are currently over 9,000 applications on the South Dublin County Council’s housing waiting list.

The local authority say the average waiting time is five plus years.

Independent councillor Francis Timmons asked for a report on waiting times for a house, and what is the longest time people are on the list, at the recent Clondalkin ACM.

In response, SDCC said: “There are currently 9,119 applications on the council’s housing waiting list – the average time on list is 5 plus years. There are approximately 240 applicants in excess of 10 years on list, the longest being 16 years.

“Please note of the 10 years plus applications longest on list, the majority are in receipt of rent supplement, all have been given information on RAS and ASH schemes, three have refused more than one offer of housing, and none have made an expression of interest through the CBL scheme.”
