Papa Wrote A Song for Mama: Re-Release hits number two in the charts

Killinarden native Claire O’Hara Kennedy, who now lives in Donegal, recorded the song ‘Papa Wrote A Song For Mama’ with Colm Hudson and Stephen Hoare in 2019 in Rua Red, reports Ryan Butler.

They are signed by an Australian record company and have another song in the pipeline, ‘Wedding Vows’.

However, they were convinced to re-release ‘Papa Wrote A Song For Mama’ to see how well it did.

The answer is exceptionally good, as it is now in second place in the charts in certain parts of Australia.

According to Stephen, the lyricist for the song, inspiration came from watching Tom Jones on The Voice UK, mentioning that Jones had dedicated a song to his wife before he even had his breakthrough, which is essentially what ‘Papa Wrote A Song For Mama’ is about.

Overall, the central theme of the song is “true, everlasting love”.

Over the course of two hours, Stephen would “hear what it sounds like” in his head when writing, before sending the lyrics to Colm for him to make music to accompany the lyrics.

After the release of ‘Wedding Vows’, the trio has another song in the pipeline, which will be about dementia.

This song will be a charity single, with the proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Stephen would like to thank Mark Eckel (who suggested re-releasing the song), Colm (who played acoustic guitar), Claire (who provided vocals), Paul Kelly (who played bass guitar), and Noel Heaney (who played lead guitar).

‘Papa Wrote A Song For Mama’ is available to stream on YouTube and Spotify.
