People asked to think green and recycle their Christmas tree
By Echo Reporter
DON’T let your Christmas tree be all that’s green this holiday period and make sure to reduce and recycle your festive packaging.
South Dublin County Council has this week asked everyone to take a moment and give the environment a gift this Christmas by thinking green.
According to the council, every year each household generates an estimated 55 kilograms of packaging, a lot of it unnecessary and a lot of it ending up in the black bin – and heading to landfill.
This year the council has encouraged people to reduce their waste and recycle, both their household waste and packaging and their Christmas tree.
Anything recyclable should be put in the green bin for collection, glass disposed at one of the county’s 63 bring banks and batteries and electrics at the WEEE Clondalkin Community Recycling Initiative, www.recycleit.ie.
The Ballymount Civic Amenity Centre closes at 3pm on December 31, remains closed on New Year’s Day and re-opens to normal hours from January 2.
Christmas tree recycling is also part of the Christmas recycling campaign, with collections operating at numerous locations across the county from January 6 to January 15.
