Plans for cemetery at Citywest

PLANS for an 8,047-plot cemetery in the grounds of the Citywest Hotel and Convention Centre have been approved by South Dublin County Council, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

Cape Wrath Hotel Limited, the owner and operator of the Citywest Hotel, submitted the plans which include columbarium walls, and a single-storey reception building.

The reception building comprises a reception, an office, a reception store, a toilet, and a kitchenette with photovoltaic solar panels at roof level.

The provision of an ancillary maintenance shed, bin and battery storage structures forms part of the proposal.

The development includes a new vehicular access road from Garters Lane to the N7 /M7 Naas Road, with two vehicular access points serving the proposed cemetery.

A total 110 car-parking spaces, including 25 spaces to the east of the reception building and 85 within overflow car park areas to the south of the development, are included.

The development also includes eight bicycle-parking stands, and all associated hard and soft landscape and boundary treatment works, including the reshaping of an existing lake and provision of a footbridge.

On August 15, South Dublin County Council decided to grant permission for the cemetery with a number of conditions.

These conditions include the omission of the 140sqm northern part of the reception building, for the gathering of funerals and hosting of services, as it contravenes the site’s zoning objective.
