Family fun run for Ciarán Foundation

FOR the first time since 2019 the Ciarán Carr Foundation will be hosting its annual family fun run/walk in Corkagh Park, on Saturday, September 30.

Pre-Covid, the event was run for five consecutive years and was an extremely popular day out for the community.

This year’s event has the theme ‘sustainability’ with participants asked to ‘Wear Your Colours’ from whatever county or country they wish to represent.

Gemma and Philip Carr, founders of the Foundation are delighted to have the opportunity to host the event once again.

“In 2019 we had more than 700 attendees on the day and little did we know that we would not get the chance to hold another Fun Run / Walk for three years,” they said.

All funds raised will go towards continuing the work of the Foundation in the local community and further afield.

“Providing defibrillators and the training to use them is the core of what we do. Even during Covid we continued to receive requests for our help from sports clubs, schools and community organisations. This work would not be possible without the incredible help of our supporters,” said the Carrs.

On January 20, 2012, Ciarán, just two weeks shy of his 21st birthday, collapsed while training with Round Tower GAA senior football team.

He had already booked his 21st birthday party but family and friends ensured the night went ahead – raising €24,000 for the CRY Foundation in Tallaght Hospital.

Ciarán’s parents Philip and Gemma subsequently established the charity Ciarán Carr Foundation, which is aligned with the Clondalkin GAA club.

It helps to prevent sudden cardiac death tragedies occurring at sporting clubs and organisations.

This year also marks the tenth anniversary of the Foundation and each adult participant will receive a specially designed medal to mark the occasion. On the day there will also be live entertainment from a number of local performers.

Participants can register via a link on the Ciarán Carr Foundation Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Entry is adults €10, young adults (12-16) €5, with under 12s free of charge.
